A Nairobi-bound plane was 16 forced to divert and land back in Paris after experiencing a mechanical problem.
According to preliminary reports, the plane had taken off from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport when the pilot informed the passengers of the mechanical problem.
He told the passengers that the plane had an issue with its de-icing system which made it hard for the engines to clear the accumulated ice.
Two hours into the flight, the pilot informed the passengers that he had no other option but to return to Paris.
“There is no way we can get to Nairobi and we have to turn back,” the pilot announced.
“We also have to defuel as we have too much fuel to land at Charles de Gaulle, but that’s nothing to worry about,” the pilot assured passengers.
The plane dumped its fuel near the city of Verona before landing back in Paris at around 3 pm.
“Unfortunately, your flight AF814 from Paris (CDG) to Nairobi (NBO) on 16.10.2023 has been delayed. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. KLM will keep you informed of any updates,” read a statement from the company in part.
The flight was rescheduled and was expected to arrive at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Tuesday at 4:15 a.m.
