Orengo is a renowned lawyer and politician from Siaya County. He is the sitting senator of his county and is married to Betty Kaari Murungi. The two have been blessed with six children namely, Bob, Steven, Michael, Zeni Orengo, Josephine and Lynette Orengo.
Betty is also known to be the one and only sister of Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi.
She is a lawyer with over 27 years of practice in law. She first began as a commercial lawyer whereby she represented banks and insurance firms before shifting to a human rights lawyer and International Criminal law after the Tutsi genocide in 1994(in Rwanda).
In 1995, she went to Rwanda and met with other activists to push for accountability and justice for the horrid crimes that had been committed against humanity.
Between 2009 and 2010, Orengo’s wife served as Vice Chairperson and Commissioner of the Kenya Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission. She however resigned in 2010 after falling out with her boss, the late Bethwel Kiplagat.

Recently, Orengo organized an event at his Nyawara village home in East Ugenya where he revealed that he got his source of happiness from Mt. Kenya.
“I accepted to go all the way to climb the Mountain in Chogoria, Tharaka Nithi, haven’t I tried?” Orengo posed moments after he had introduced his wife to the crowd.
