Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has been in politics for so long but she has managed to keep her private life out of the public eye.
Before indulging in politics, Karua, who is referred to as an Iron lady, served as a magistrate in various courts between 1981 to 1987. After leaving the courts, the mother of two started her own law firm, Martha Karua & Co. Advocates and eventually got herself in politics.
She is the longest serving former MP of Gichugu constituency. She served in Mwai Kibaki’s regime as the minister of justice and in 2013 she tried her hands on the presidency but she did not succeed.
In 2017, Karua vied for Kirinyaga County gubernatorial seat but was defeated by the incumbent Anne Waiguru. She is however eyeing the same position this year however reports indicate that she will be Raila Odinga’s running mate after she recently decided to join the Azimio la Umoja Movement
Karua is single and in the past she said that has not prevented her from being a good parent to her children, a daughter and a son, identified as Wawira and Njoka respectively.
The Narc Kenya party leader is said to have been married to a man identified as Dr. Njoka, back in 1980 according to the Citizen Kenya blogspot.
Their relationship however ended in a bitter divorce but were blessed with two children. Dr. Njoka is said to have passed on a few years ago.
Karua later linked up with Court of Appeal Judge, Justice GBM Kariuki but their relationship ended leading to a divorce in 2008.
The divorce was followed by a scandal as shortly after the divorce, Kariuki was arrested and charged with murder.
Kariuki was accused of stabbing Robert Karori when a scuffle ensued between them. after they got involved in an accident in lower Kabete.
The case was however dismissed due to lack of evidence. Officers who were investigating the incident said that they were under pressure from the Attorney General and the Justice minister(Karua) to lock the justice in cells.
Apparently, Karua was getting back at Kariuki for dumping him. Kariuki however sued the state for the damages that he had incurred and that saw him get awarded Kshs 5 million.
