Just a few hours after the death of Elijah Memusi’s wife, kajiado central residents went to the home of their legislator to help him mourn.
Photos shared at the home of hon. Elijah Memusi showed the locals feasting as if though nothing sad had happened.
While others perceived this act as a normal African way of grieving with neighbors, there are those who took offence as they castigated these residents for just eating. Below were the various reactions from Kenyans after the photos of those eating were shared online:
“Just enjoy life, when you die, your villagers and neighbors will be celebrating. I’m just shocked if indeed this photo is true. During my funeral, no food .”
“This is not kenya we want,, honestly just a few hours since she died here you are eating like seriously,, waah tabia za wakenya”
“That’s how we are quickly forgotten once we die; the body is still warm and people are already feasting!”
“She just passed on, we have arrived and start eating eeish … at the end if the person is poor he will be left with nothing by the time the funeral is over.”
“I blame the one who cooked the tea this morning, it was time to mourn not eating, anyway kula maisha sahii otherwise mambo inakuaga ivi”
“How fast jameni?? Nguvu ya kuteremsha chai while people are wailing/crying at the loss of a loved one.”
“So saddening. So this is what happens when one loses his or her life. People will go ahead and start feasting even before your body starts freezing in a morgue?”
“Haiya,, I thot this happened today morning n just hours after ,,, pple in the compound,,,,, like seriously ?????”
“Really?????is it funeral or Ruracio???Haki human beings…Anyway Kushomaa nukuria…My condolences to her family at large.”
“This is one of the absurdities of African funerals.Friends and relatives mostly go to show face and eat and maybe just condone with you ??
Buffles me every time”
“Seems there is no time to waste once you are gone. Appetite to devour takes centre stage and just like that…sherehe inaanza irregardless??”
“Hii ndio kuomboleza?? anyway the Bible says there is no connection between the dead and the living”
“How fast? Did people go to mourn or eat?My friends, I hope you have learnt something.Incase you die the pain goes direct to your immediate family, invest in your family.
“And eating/drinking is part of mourning in Africa, may her soul rest in eternal peace. Izi accidents zimekuwa mob sana, something has to be done.”
“This is Africa for you… Eating is part of mourning… Or we call it celebration of a life well lived?”
“Earth ooh.. just afew minutes after you death and people are already feasting!
Life is vanity.”
“Give family time to absorb the news before you take your starving stomach there.”
