Governor Alfred Mutua launched his manifesto for the 2022 elections on Sunday, December 5 and warned other politicians against copying.
Mutua promised to deliver lots of things to Kenyans if they give him a chance to be their president.
One of the things that the Machakos governor promised was to give a loan to newly weds at an interest of 0.5%.
“Newlyweds will receive an initial capital from my government of Ksh.500,000 to Ksh.1 Million in kind, payable over 20 years at an interest rate of 0.5 percent as a gift from the government to invest in their new home and entrench the family institution,” the presidential hopeful stated at the event held at Panari hotel in Nairobi.
Mutua said that the loan would be used to improve the living conditions of the couples.
“What is the effect of all this? Dignity for all of us, improvement of the living standards and quality of homes countrywide and no more mud houses,” he explained.
The promise has left Kenyans talking with some asking Mutua to first get a wife for himself. Here are some of the reactions;
“He should marry first before promising others,” read Lloyd Richard’s comment on Facebook.
“Pea Juliani kwanza,” another Facebook user said.
“Something is wrong with Mutua he needs urgent medical check up,” Amoh Jeruiyot said.
Anne Kazungu said, “Don’t give false promises that aren’t making sense at all.”
“Ndoa yake ilimshinda, senior bachelor, how do you date someone for all those years without marrying her and you dare talk about marriage. Mutua is a joker lol,” Naire Maasai commented.
Aside from the wedding gift, the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader said that he would create 5 million jobs within the first three years of his leadership and promised to invest heavily in youth development by creating a conducive business environment.
Mutu said that he is confident that he has what it takes to rule the country and bring positive changes.
“It is now time for a new generation to take over and transform this country from being theirs to ours. It is time to include the majority of this country in leadership, and that is the youth,” he said.
