Oyuu Playing Referee In Fight Between Teachers And TSC

Date:

Newly elected Knut secretary-general Collin Oyuu is playing the middle man between the teachers and their employer Teachers Service Commission (TSC) following a standoff between them over the mandatory retraining.

Mr. Oyuu who seems to be trying not to hurt neither the teachers nor the TSC notes that the standoff has been brought about by the misunderstanding of the training.

Oyuu noted that there was a need for teachers to go for the employer training and development but that has been made difficult because there are a lot of false claims that have surrounded the program.

Oyuu, therefore, asked TSC to come out and provide elaborate information on the retraining program to quiet the ongoing opposition.

“There’s a lot that is being said about the teacher professional development some say that the teachers will be required to travel for the training, this is not entirely true,” Oyuu said as reported by The Star.

The Knut boss called for an engagement between the TSC and stakeholders to square out the troubling matters in the program.

The launched program will now require teachers employed by the TSC to renew their professional certificates after every five years.

Under the program, the teachers will be required to undergo in-service professional training that lasts for five years. Upon the completion of the training, they will be rewarded with a certificate.

At the end of each module of the course, the teachers will be reward points that are yet to be revealed. The course is set to go for 30 years and has six modules that last for five years.

Each module will cost Ksh6,000, a fee which the TSC expects the teachers to pay. Teachers are expected to undertake the training during the school holidays in the following institutions; Kenyatta University, Mount Kenya University, Riara, and Kenya Education Management Institute.
