Governors that were recently elected to office on Thursday August 25 took an oath of office in colorful ceremonies that were organized in their respective counties.
The events saw a number of newly elected governors get handed over the instruments of power by their predecessors even if they did not support them.
It however seems that some of the governors leaving offices could not bear the pain of being defeated and therefore they kept off the swearing in ceremonies of their successors, which proceeded without fail. Here is a list of governors who failed to physically hand over power to their successors.
Lee Kinyanjui
Lee Kinyanjui missed the swearing in of Susan Kihika which was conducted at Nakuru ASK Showground arena. His deputy, Erick Korir however attended the event which was presided over by High Court judge Weldon Korir.
Kinyanjui, who sought to defend his seat on the Jubilee ticket, had earlier on rejected the election results citing irregularities. He had also said that he would challenge Kihika’s victory in a court of law.
Kiraitu Murungi
The outgoing Meru governor also failed to show up at the Kinoru stadium to hand over power to Kawira Mwangaza.
Mwangaza trounced Murungi who was seeking to serve a second term in the August 9 general elections.
Martin Wambora
Wambora kept off the swearing in ceremony of Cecily Mbarire as the newly elected Embu governor even though the two did not compete in the last general elections.
It is not clear why he skipped the event that went down at the Embu University. Wambora unsuccessfully vied for the senatorial seat on August 9.
Francis Kimemia
The outgoing Nyandarua governor also did not attend the swearing in of his successor Moses Kiarie Badilisha.
He however sent him an apology saying that he was attending a funeral of a relative.
The Azimio-allied politician was trounced by Badilisha who vied on UDA ticket. He was also not satisfied with the election outcome and had vowed to challenge Badilisha’s victory.
