National Assembly Minority Whip Junet Mohammed has said that the opposition is not bothered by the budget allocations that the Treasury CS will be submitting in parliament this Thursday.
Speaking at parliament buildings, Junet noted that the main concern is how the government was going to raise the Ksh3.85trillion funds as well as the Finance Bill that has faced immense opposition from Kenyans.
“The most important thing for Kenyans is the Finance Bill. What is happening today is budget highlight by the Finance minister. This is budget for parliament, executive. What they want to do is up to them, that is their manifesto. We are not bothered.
“When you want to overtax Kenyans and want to squeeze money out of Kenyans that is where now we have to stand firm,” Junet said
On that note, Junet said that the opposition will not walk out from the parliament when the Finance Bill 2024 is brought from Tuesday next week.
“That one I can assure Kenyans there will be no walkout. It is mandatory for all our members to be in parliament and every time we are discussing the bill whether ot is on first reading or second reading or third reading all of them must be there, everybody must participate and must follow the position of the minority on issues that we are going to take position on especially issues that are offensive to the public,” the Suna East MP said
“If anybody absents himself or votes against the position of the minority, there will be dire consequences.”
He added that the fate of MPs who will support the bill also lies in the hands of the people who elected them.
