Parties under the Kenya Kwanza Coalition that is led by DP William Ruto on Tuesday signed an agreement to work together ahead of the general elections.
The event that took place at Ngong Racecourse saw 11 political parties seal the deal. The party that are now under the coalition include : DP Ruto’s UDA, ANC, Ford Kenya, Tujibebe Party, Devolution party led by speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi, Farmers Party of Kenya, Moses Kuria’s Chama Cha Kazi, Communist Party of Kenya, Economic Freedom Party, Umoja Maendeleo Party and the Service Party.
The 11 parties have willingly agreed to support DP Ruto’s presidential candidature in the general elections that will take place on August 9, 2022. The parties will also retain their individual identities.
Giving his speech at the event, DP Ruto said that Kenya Kwanza is an alliance about the people of Kenya and intends to take care of the needs of Kenyans while Azimio was just about leadership.
“The other side is an alliance about leaders, is about sharing power and about sharing positions. The difference between what we are doing this afternoon and what our competitors are doing is like day and night,” Ruto said.
During the signing of the agreement however, women were not represented as only men participated in the exercise. Apparently, no political party led by a woman joined the coalition but still, some Kenyans, especially Azimio supporters felt that the move left Kenyan women out.
“Thank you @RailaOdingafor believing in women’s leadership and giving us the opportunity. Ubarikiwe.@mamangilu@MarthaKarua@gladyswanga@Lesuuda,” Wajir Women Rep Fatuma Gedi said mocked Ruto.
Charity Ngilu also commented on that saying,”Kenya is in safe hands when women sit on the decision making table. Baba @RailaOdingathe 5th. #Inawezekana.”
“Mama mboga ulisema aende soko? Chun Min Oae posed.
“Women are unheard of!” Benjamin Nzioki said.
