The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has refuted claims that the party is on the verge of integration over Raila Odinga’s succession politics.
In statement issued by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, the Opposition party insisted that it was intact.
ODM blamed a section of the media for perpetuating division reports to trigger panic within the party.
However, Sifuna insisted that the party was well managed to avert such divisions.
“This is no mean feat but has been achieved by a strong leadership foundation, vibrant party structures, credible values, and a strong party membership base. These virtues form the basis upon which any succession or filling of vacant leadership positions is conducted. If a time ever comes for transitions within the party’s leadership, we will make it public,” said Sifuna.
Reports had alleged that former Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and his Kakamega counterpart had clashed over taking over party leadership.
However, Sifuna pointed out that Raila would declare the next step regarding party politics
This is after he announced his bid to be the next chairperson of the African Union Commission.
According to African Union Commission, the holder of the seat must take a back seat in politics and maintain a neutral stand regarding various political issues.
