Kuna watu na viatu hitmaker Nyota Ndogo has shared a memory when she was just 17 years old.
At the time, she would have either become a prostitute but she chose to be descent enough and hustle in a modest way.
“I was 17 years old heading to 18. I chose to be a house girl and not to sell my body. I wasn’t learned but I knew one who goes slowly surely makes it,” she shared on Facebook.
She landed an opportunity in Nyali and would save money for months before giving it all to her mother.
“I used to stay at my workplace in Nyali, work for like 4 months for kshs6000 to give my mother. The only thing I used to buy was sanitary towels. I would take the rest of the money to my mother. I used to stay there for long so that I can save enough money,” she shared.
Her career in music kicked off while she was still working as her house girl. People in her neighborhood were however unaware that the voice behind her songs that had become so popular was hers.
“When I would visit my mother, I would be told have you heard of a female artist singing so well, her name is Nyota Ndogo? I would answer them it’s me. They didn’t believe it. When my songs played on Radio, presenters used to say that the artist is a house girl in Nyali,” she recalled.
Nyota went ahead to express her gratitude to all those who contributed in her success.
In the recent years, Nyota Ndogo has not been very active in music. She however ventured into business and is currently operating a restaurant in Coast. Besides that, she is also a brand influencer.
The mother of two is currently expecting a child for her Danish husband.
