Former national assembly speaker Kenneth Marende has taken a swipe at deputy president William Samoei Ruto while referring to him as nyang’au who cannot bring any change to the country.
Marende was addressing an audience on Saturday when he maintained that Ruto has been in the system for the last ten years and it would be ridiculous for him to claim that he is the change that Kenya is yearning for.
The former speaker also termed the second in command as a tribalist since he only appointed members of his community to the cabinet positions he was allocated by president Uhuru Kenyatta.
As a result, he warned Kenyan voters from electing cunning politicians and thieves since that will only worsen the already bad situation.
“If we elect criminals, conmen and thieves, then we should be in for a rude shock. That is the truth and remember a hyena is a hyena. A hyena never changes.
“Now let’s look at those eyeing the 2022 presidency, there are those who have already been granted an opportunity to serve. President Uhuru Kenyatta really means well for this country but it becomes difficult to work with those whose only focus is to achieve personal gains.
“When they were given a chance to appoint cabinet ministers, they only considered those from their communities upto seven ministers. This is why I am telling you that a hyena does not change.
“Rather why do you think that person is going to change when you make him president tomorrow? He won’t change because his thinking revolves around tribes.” Continued Marende in a sustained attack aimed at deputy president William Ruto.
In the meantime, speaker Marende seems to be backing Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi’s presidential bid after he accompanied him to Meru county over the weekend. They met a number of leaders such as Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungu amongst other local politicians.
