A teacher in Nyamira county is facing attempted murder charges after caning a 9-year old pupil 104 strokes.
The court was informed that the teacher, identified as Jackson Maruta, mercilessly beat the student for misplacing his school uniform.
As a result, the minor sustained injuries on his buttocks.
According to the prosecution, the teachers action could have ended fatally on the young one following a medical examination.
“Initially we thought it was a grievous harm when he was taken to the hospital, but further investigation revealed that the case was an attempted murder,” the court heard.
Apparently, the assault
“Now that this child was assaulted in the buttocks, there is this zimatoma, these are blood clots, if they could have gone to the vein, it could have travelled and dislodged in the heart,” the prosecution said.
Kenyans have condemned the teacher for his actions, some calling for his imprisonment.
“Attempted murder? 104 strokes while the rest of the teachers are watching. People can’t be fair,” an X user reacted.
Another wrote that, “4 was enough. Disciplined with love always.”
“Teachers teachers teachers when will you learn how to teach and go home. Mtotot akisumbua fukuza yeye akianguka hataangukia kwako, yuache kurisk career zetu please,” another advised.
“Hasira yake ya kusota anarkrlrs mtoi. These kind of teachers made our lives miserable in primary school and secondary school,” read a separate comment.
