The National Police service(NPS) has issued various guidelines that Kenyans must adhere to when the Supreme Court will be issuing a ruling on the 2022 presidential petition on Monday September 5.
In a statement, the police service noted that they are aware of the anxiety and tension that arise among Kenyans on such a day but called upon them to remain peaceful and calm.
Firstly, NPS has called upon the Kenyans not to panic or migrate from their homes or ordinary places of residence in fear and anticipation of chaos.
Aside from that the police service urged Kenyans to cooperate with the law enforcement and report any suspicious activities in their areas during the period.
“Such information should be shared in confidence to any police officer, at a police station or through our toll-free numbers 911, 112, 999 and Fichua kwa DCI 0800 722 203,” part of the statement from Deputy IG of police Noor Gabow read.
NPS further directed Kenyans to follow the Supreme court’s proceedings from their homes and avoid gathering around the Supreme court during the ruling or any public place.
Finally, NPS noted that access to the Supreme court shall be limited and all roads leading to the court shall be closed .
“Traffic police shall be deployed adequately to direct traffic around the court facility,” Gabow noted.
The Service said that it had taken all the necessary steps and measures to enhance security across the country and applauded Kenyans for their peaceful conduct during and after the general elections.
“The National Police Service therefore remains peaceful to all peace-loving Kenyans and applauds them for their conduct during the period,” the statement further read.
