21-year old Calvin Linus Chivondo has turned out to be a notorious shoplifter after he was once again caught stealing.
The father of one landed in trouble on Thursday May 19 at night after he was caught stealing maize flour from Naivas supermarket along Ronald Ngala street.
Chivondo was arrested and taken to Central Police Station where he is being held as police conduct investigations into the allegations.
Central OCPD David Baariu confirmed that they have Chivondo in custody and he will be arraigned as soon as investigations are concluded.
The young man made headlines in April after when he was sentenced to jail for one year with an alternative of a fine of Kshs100,000 for shoplifting goods worth Kshs3000 from Naivas supermarket.
He stole the goods so as to feed his wife and now 5-month old baby as he did not have money to buy anything for them to put on the table.
Chivondo gained a lot of sympathy from Kenyans and immediately comedian YY mobilized Kenyans to raise the fine.
Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko also chipped in to ensure that he changes his life of the young father completely.
In fact, Sonko is the one who cleared the fine, and sent his team to pick him from prison while the money that YY had collected was handed to the suspect physically.
The politician went ahead and gave him shopping and foodstuffs that would last his family a month and a job.
“Handing over the one-month food items stock to Mr. Alvin Chivindo who has just been freed from industrial area prison by my team after we managed to secure his freedom. Chivondo was jailed yesterday for stealing foodstuffs at Naivas,” Sonko wrote on Twitter.
“Am happy the young man is now free. It’s my hope he will be a responsible man. The shopping was done at the same supermarket where he was arrested after stealing the food items to feed his family, ” he added.
Chivondo, who was staying in Pipeline then, was put in charge of Food containers at Sonko’s Upperhill office. It is however unclear whether he is still working for Sonko.
