A new directive from the Central Committee of the Korean Workers’ Party as instructed citizens to protect the economy and the welfare of their comrades by not wasting food.
“At the beginning of this month, the Central Committee ordered residents to actively participate in solving our food crisis this year as part of a food-saving struggle,’ a source from North Korea was quoted by Radio Free Asia as saying.
The source added;
“The order emphasized that the struggle not only solves the problem of how we will eat, it is a matter of protecting the socialist system. It also warned that authorities will step up crackdowns and punishment for any actions related to food waste.’
The acute food shortage has seen North Korea’s neighbor China donated vast stockpiles of crops and 550,000 tons of fertiliser to poverty-stricken country.
UN Security Council imposed crippling sanctions on North Korea because of its continued nuclear and missile tests. The country can’t trade with other nations of the world making life under Kim’s regime unbearable for most of its citizens.
The foodstuff that was donated by China are however considered humanitarian aid and thus not subject to sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council.
