Netflix Ends Free Watching Plan for Kenyans

Date:

Kenyans will now start paying subscription fees to use Netflix applications on their phones.

In a statement, Netflix announced that users especially those with Android phones will start paying subscription fees from November 1, 2023.

“We’re writing to let you know about an upcoming change to your membership. On November 1, 2023, the Free plan will no longer be available, and your membership will end,” Netflix stated.

Netflix, an American subscription streaming service owned and operated by Netflix, Inc. distributes original and acquired films and television shows from various genres internationally in multiple languages.

The Free plan, which was initially launched in Kenya in September 2021, was a groundbreaking move by Netflix, making Kenya the first country worldwide to offer such a plan.

The Netflix Free plan allowed users to access a limited selection of content without the need for a paid subscription.

Following the end of the free plan, subscribers in Kenya can choose to upgrade to one of Netflix’s paid plans, starting as low as Ksh200 per month.

A paid subscription unlocks access to all shows and movies which can be enjoyed on a phone or laptop.
