The Law Society of Kenya president Nelson Havi has announced that he is only left with one task before he finally seizes to be the president of the body.
Through a tweet, Havi said that he is only waiting for the LSK SGM scheduled for September 24, 2021 before he takes his leave.
“The 24-9-2021 LSK SGM will be my last assignment as President. We will constitute the Elections Board and approve IEBC to conduct elections on 17-3-2022,”read the tweet by Havi.
Havi went on to mention some of the great achievement by LSK during his tenure saying that he had done enough.
“With over 20 Judgments against Government, advisory for dissolution of Parliament and stop of BBI we have done enough.” He said.
Havi was elected as the president of the lawyers’ body in February 27, 2020 to serve on a two year term after defeating lawyers Harriette Chiggai, Maria Mbeneka and Charles Kanjama.
He was the only candidate who had not served in the LSK Council. His slogan during the campaigns was ‘a brave new bar, promising to restore LSK’s lost glory’, while his agenda was centered on three key pillars; monitoring legislation, defending the rule of law and Constitutionalism.
The current LSK law states that a president only serves for two years after which a new president is elected.
Havi’s tenure was however not smooth. There were wrangles between him and LSK’s CEO Mercy Wambua over the control of the society’s affairs.
The never ending wrangles saw the two engage in numerous court battles.
