The National Police Service (NPS) has released a statement concerning the alleged abduction and torture of Dennis Itumbi.
NPS said the police have launched investigations into the matter with a view of establishing the circumstances surrounding it.
The police spokesperson Bruno Shioso called upon members of the public with any information on the incident to volunteer and report to any police station while urging them to desist from speculations.
“We appeal to members of the public to be patient during the investigation and therefore desist from speculation,” Shioso said.
The matter was reported at the Thindigua police post under the OB 10/23/12/21 at 1540 hours.
Itumbi is said to have been abducted on Thursday afternoon as he left a barber shop in Thindigua, Kiambu county. He was forced into a Toyota Premio vehicle by unknown people.
According to witnesses, three men approached him and bundled him into the backseat of the vehicle before driving off towards Nairobi.
Itumbi’s brother David later at night announced that they had found him at a hospital along Thika Road and was badly beaten.
“My brother has been badly beaten. We thank God that he is alive. On his own account he was arrested by police and beaten and tortured. This is the state we found him in. Please pray for his recovery,” David shared on Twitter.
