Police in Naivasha are investigating an incident where a woman was on Sunday found with her throat slit inside a dilapidated lodging.
The incident has left residents in utter shock amid rising cases of femicide in the country.
Police say that the deceased’s throat was slit with a sharp knife that was recovered at the scene.
According to the Naivasha OCPD Stephen Kirui, the woman checked into the lodging along Kariuki Chotara road in the company of a man, only for her body to be discovered hours later by workers.
On Sunday morning, the workers found the room unlocked and the body on the bed with the sheets soaked in blood.
She was however not sexually abused.
“From initial investigations, the victim was not sexually abused but the killer used a sharp knife to slit her throat before fleeing,” Kirui said.
Police are also investigating the mobile phone that was found at the scene. It is yet to be established whether the phone belongs to the deceased or her murderer.
The incident comes just days after another murder case of a similar manner was concluded on Friday.
This was the case of businesswoman Monica Kimani whose throat was slit and her body stuffed in the bathtub at her home in Lamuria Gardens, Kilimani in September 2018.
Joseph Irungu and Jacque Maribe were implicated in the brutal murder that caught the attention of the nation.
The court found Irungu guilty of the crime while Maribe, who was the second accused in the case, was freed.
