A suspected thug was killed by his accomplice in a botched robbery attempt at Reuben-Makadara in the outskirts of Nairobi.
According to a report by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the two armed thugs invaded the David Engineering Company on Sunday night, with the aim of stealing when the incident occurred.
The thugs scaled the company’s perimeter wall unaware that the guard, Joash Ondiek, had noticed them.
“The criminals entered the building to complete their mission as the guard trailed them to see what they were intending to steal,” the police statement read.
Ondiek then confronted them and asked them to introduce themselves and surrender, orders that they defied and instead charged at him.
“A struggle ensued between the three but Ondiek was too strong for them. When one of the thugs saw that they were being overpowered, he attempted to stab Ondiek with a sharpened knife and by good luck, Ondiek dodged and the knife landed on the other thug’s eye,” DCI said.
The injured thug fell on the ground and died on the spot. Upon realizing that he had killed his accomplice, the other thug took off leaving behind his crude weapons.
Ondiek, who sustained injuries from the screwdriver was rushed to the hospital where he is still receiving treatment.
“Efforts to trace the whereabouts of the suspect who escaped are ongoing while the deceased’s body was transferred to City mortuary,” DCI said
DCI further wished Ondiek a quick recovery.
“DCI congratulates Ondiek for his bravery in facing the thugs to protect his employer’s property as we wish him a quick recovery,” DCI said.
