A Nairobi high school teacher accused of inappropriately touching a 15-year old high school student was arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts.
The teacher was charged with abuse of position before senior principal magistrate Philip Mutua after trying to seduce the underage girl.
He however denied the charges and granted a bond of Sh100,000 or alternative cash bail of Sh50,000.
He was accused of touching the girl indecently and forcibly kissed her.
According to the court documents, Dennis Otieno committed the offence between July 31Â last year and September 6 this year within Dagoretti sub county in Nairobi County.
He is accused of taking advantage of his position as a teacher to seduce the student by touching her breasts and kissing her.
The report states that Otieno went to class during a Kiswahili lesson looking worried and angry.
This made his victim, the 15-year old, concerned and later texted him via whatsapp so as to find out what was troubling her teacher.
Otieno replied first by complimenting how the student had donned her uniform snd then told her how he was unhappy about how the male students behaved with teachers.
He went on to reveal that he was in love with her and was obsessed with her. The message could however not be retrieved on the student’s phone but was recovered from the suspect’s phone.
It is alleged that the teacher continued to seduce his student until September 6 when he met her on her way to the languages department.
Otieno is said to have convinced the student to follow him to the office after which he locked the door and began his indecent acts.
Sooner or later, there was a knock on the door forcing him to dash to his desk and pretended to be perusing a book.
The frightened girl explained to a fellow student about the ordeal before reporting the matter was to one of the teachers. The victim’s mother was also informed and the matter escalated to the authorities.
Otieno was dismissed from his teaching duties. His case will be mentioned on a later date this month.
