Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and the county’s Women Rep Wangui Ngirici have now resorted to insult each other’s spouses as their political duel turns ugly.
The Kirinyaga Women Rep has declared her interest to vie for governor in 2022, an ambition that has put her at loggerheads with Waiguru who is keen to defend her seat.
Wangui Ngirici’s husband Andrew Ngirici has actively been campaigning for his wife unlike Waiguru’s husband Kamotho Waiganjo who is rarely seen in public.
The Kirinyaga governor while speaking during an interview on NTV on October 4th said that her lawyer husband has taken a back seat on matters politics because he is not a politician.
However, Andrew Ngirici is a businessman and has been part and parcel of his wife’s campaign trail as she aims at unseating Waiguru.
Waiguru has since launched scathing attack on her competitor for enrolling her husband to her campaign trail.
Speaking at the Christian Community Service (CCS) after she disbursing Ksh125.6 million cheques to needy children in the county, Waiguru wondered why Wangui is always accompanied by her husband as though he was the elected Woman Representative for the county.
The Kirinyaga Woman Rep bragged that she has an even more handsome, well educated and endowed husband yet she doesn’t tag him along to her campaigns.
“You elected me your governor and not my husband, Kamotho Waiganjo, who is not only handsome, well education and well-endowed hence I have never involved him in my day-to-day political activities like my rival does,” said Waiguru.
Waiguru further dared her rival to stop tagging along her husband to her political campaigns and face her one on one like a woman.
In a quick rejoinder, Wangui stated that she does not see anything wrong in being boosted and supported politically by her husband.
“I do not see anything wrong with my husband campaigning for me and since he is mine that’s why he is standing on this podium with me today,” she told a meeting at Thiba village in Mwea.
Andrew Ngirici, who accompanied his wife to Thiba, vowed to continue supporting and campaigning for her to the hilt until she accomplished her mission to wrestle the gubernatorial seat from Waiguru come next year’s general elections.
“Wangui is my wife and I am her ardent supporter which Waiguru should contend with as she prepares to exit from the gubernatorial seat for the new governor,” Andrew Ngirici said.
