Former Agriculture cabinet secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri’s key ally from Kirinyaga county on Wednesday dumped him for deputy president William Samoei Ruto.
Former Gichugu member of parliament Njogu Barua who also doubled as the Deputy Secretary General of Mwangi Kiunjuri’s The Service Party, paid a courtesy call to Ruto’s Karen home, marking his official defection.
While recognizing his move, William Ruto said that Njogu Barua together with his supporters are big supporters of his bottom up economic model which aims at improving competitiveness of small businesses and enhancing productivity.
“The Bottom-Up Economic Model is deliberately and purposefully designed to calibrate our country’s policies to enhance productivity and competitiveness of small businesses, creating opportunities for millions of enterprising Kenyans at lower cadre to make a living and thrive.
At the Karen Residence in Nairobi County, welcomed former Gichugu MP Njogu Barua and supporters to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), whose policy they believe in,”posted Ruto.
His migration to the second in command’s side come just a day after the incumbent Kirinyaga governor Ann Waiguru officially crossed over to Ruto’s side on Tuesday.
According to Ann Waiguru, the events which happened at Wang’uru stadium were a clear indication that the ground was with deputy president William Ruto.
The Kirinyaga governor further added that politics is all about remaining relevant and listening to the voice of the people since they are the ones who direct you on the direction to go and not the other way round.
“The bible says when you lack wisdom, you ask for it, James 1:5 and I have asked for wisdom and I think I have listened. I have checked with many of the members seated here, I have checked with others who are not here, I have even checked with people who are on the other side who haven’t officially said they are moving. I have asked, is it betrayal if I move?
But the message I have been given by everybody I have talked to is that in politics you must be very careful to stay relevant, you must be very careful to listen to the people because if you do not listen to the people, never imagine as a leader, you’re not the one who tells the people.”Â
The people are the ones who tell you, they decide who they are going to elect very early in advance. If you go to the ward you will hear them saying “this one we will not elect, this one we will elect, it’s them who decide and when they decide is when you decide to stand.” Said Waiguru.
