Ugandan Opposition leader Bobi Wine on Tuesday accused the government of Yoweri Museveni for being behind the oppression of its citizens at the airport.
Bobi Wine who broke the news through his official Facebook account claimed that their efforts to save Ugandans suffering abroad were being frustrated by the authorities to the extent of being held at the airports upon arrival.
Bobi Wine further accused Yoweri Museveni of confiscating the phones of these citizens with the intention of finding out who was behind their rescue mission, specifically the parties that purchased the air ticket for them.
Consequently, the opposition urged the Ugandan authorities to release these innocent citizens so that they reunite with their families having gone through alot in the gulf nations. Below is what Bobi Wine wrote:
“I have been informed that 15 of the Ugandans who have been repatriated from Dubai today are being held by security operatives at Entebbe Airport. They landed at 10:30am and up to now (5:00pm) they are still being interrogated! Before their phones were taken away, they informed our teams what was happening to them as soon as they landed.
Once they realised that the 15 are part of those we are trying to bring back, operatives told them they were the ones they were looking for. They asked who bought the airtickets for their return, they were asked to open their phones, etc. On finding #PeoplePower pictures and other things, they were immediately apprehended! Up to now, no one is able to communicate with them!
The whole intention is of course to frustrate our effort to repatriate more Ugandans who are suffering abroad.
Can the shameless, timid regime release these helpless people, who include a baby? They have already gone through so much suffering without your help. NOW LET THEM GO TO THEIR FAMILIES.”
