Interior Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho has announced the return of the dreaded Mungiki sect on Wednesday, May 28.
According to the PS, Mungiki have been giving the traders in Central Kenya a hard time by exploiting them giving residents a hard time to live in peace.
Kibicho instructed County commissioners to launch a cranckdown on the few Mungiki members left in the region who are keen on disrupting trade in the region. The PS was speaking at Ngurubani Stadium in Kiranyaga County during a tour.
“Mungiki have returned and they are causing fear among the traders. They should be tamed,” Kibicho stated.
“The Mungiki are a real menace and they should be dealt with ruthlessly. Their criminal activities will not be tolerated in this region or any other part of the country,” Kibicho continued.
Kibicho who doen’s want bar owners to open at night during curfew went on to share that the dreaded sect that are largely based in Kirinyanga County is forcing traders to pay protection fees.
