Moses Kuria’s Gubernatorial Ambitions Troubled As Kikuyu Elders Vow To Discipline Him

Date:

Kikuyu elders are planning to summon Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria over some remarks he made during campaigns on March 18.

According to the elders Kuria will be  questioned and disciplinary action will be taken against him.

Kuria made the remarks during Kenya Kwanza rallies in Gatundu south, where the lawmaker claimed that the Kikuyus took an oath to never support ODM leader Raila Odinga and that President Kenyatta was making a mistake.

While  addressing the press, the elders said that they were disturbed and disappointed by his remarks while noting that that was his personal opinion.

“We wish therefore to categorically state that the irresponsible utterances were not the opinion of the people or elders but purely personal opinion from our MP. As Elders of Gatundu South we would like to state very categorically that we respect all the people of Kenya we also state that we are ready to work under any elected leader,” the elders said in a statement.

One of the elders who was serving in the military when the alleged oath was taken said that he did not participate in the event, and it is no longer relevant.

“I was then in military, I could not have taken any oath of the kind so those who were possibly there could elaborate on their behalf but that oath was not effective, it is not relevant at all because there are those who never took the oath, there are those who were not there are those who possibly do not know what the oath meant and if it was there it was not meant for us,” he said.

Another elder added that Kuria has been ignoring summons from them and condemned him for targeting the head of state.

“Those remarks by Hon Moses Kuria show that we elders are not elders. Elders have summoned him thrice but he has ignored them. The only thing he is doing is to make remarks. The remarks he is making against president are not good,” the elder said

He added that Kuria does not deserve to be in office while noting that he will not be elected as the Kiambu governor.

“Someone making such remarks can he be given an elective position. He is not supposed to be a leader,” he added.
