Gatundu South member of parliament Moses Kuria is not just taking lightly the political developments in the country even as he battles illness in the hospital.
Following plans by the IEBC to re-introduce the manual voting system, Moses Kuria has vowed to personally go to parliament to oppose the bill on the floor of the house.
According to the Gatundu legislator, Manual voter registration will be a recipe for chaos just like it happened in the 2007 general elections.
As a result, Kuria not only vowed to join Ruto’s UDA in rejecting the bill but also urged members of parliament allied to the Azimio to shoot it down l in totality once it is officially presented to the house for debate.
This is what Moses Kuria wrote:
“In 2016, I was a member of the 7-A-Side 14 member Kiraitu-Orengo bicameral team that worked to reform the IEBC and Elections Act after Machozi Monday riots. I strongly stood for electronic transmission of Presidential results and electronic voter identification that some top honchos in government and Jubilee suspected I had been brainwashed by the NASA side.
I found myself soo much in agreement with James Orengo, Junet Mohammed (Especially!) Eseli Simiyu, Mutula Kilonzo Jnr, Boni Khalwale, Johnson Muthama and Mishi Mboko than my Jubilee colleagues Jimmy Angwenyi, Sen Eng Mahmud, Naomi Shaban, Beatrice Elachi, Kipchumba Murkomen and Kiraitu Murungi when it came to the question of use of Technology in our elections.
I was there in 2007. I was there through Kriegler. I can say without fear of contradiction that the Amendments proposed by uprooter Amos Kimunya are a recipe for chaos. I will oppose. I urge Junet Mohammed to lead the Azimio team in opposing just like he did in 2016. Otherwise you will cry in the toilet thinking you are fixing others . Utanikumbuka” Kuria said.
The vibrant legislator suffered third degree burns on his feet after he bought an electric mat which was supposed to be used to reduce the numbness he was feeling.
“And my feet just exploded and when I came here the following day they said that I have got third degree burns. It is very simple, Francis, two weeks ago a friend of mine who had been insisting for some time. Because you know I do a lot of work, a lot of walking and this particular time because I was travelling, getting numb and tired so this guy managed to convince me to use some gadget which to the best of my opinion I thought was authorized,” Kuria told Citizen TV’s Francis Gachuri.
In a bid to save his dear life, Moses Kuria went through one of the most rare surgeries in the world called the rare stem cell procedure which was meant to fasten the healing of his feet by improving scarring, reducing fibrosis and inducing skin regeneration.
Moses Kuria joins other leaders allied to deputy president William Ruto who have openly expressed their dissatisfaction with the manual back up. How he will oppose the bill in parliament is still a matter of concern since he will be risking his ailing legs given that he is yet to recover fully.
In the meantime, this is how some of the UDA allied leaders reacted to the news of manual voting:
“The impunity, the entitlement and lack of shame coupled with express selfishness of this cohort is straight up disgusting! The audacity to keep bringing retrogressive bills to erode gains we have made as a country just to force their way on the outcome of the 2022 polls!Kenyans will not sit and watch as you take them for complete idiots. You will be answerable for the consequences!” Wrote Karen Nyamu.
According to the Standard Newspaper, a fresh political clash looms in the National Assembly following the introduction of a bill seeking to bring back manual transmission of election results last used in 2007.
The elections amendment bill, 2022 is pushing for alternative methods that the independent electoral and boundaries Commission (IEBC) can’t deploy to relay results during the August 9th polls.
It further seeks to allow for manual identification of voters at the polling station. Claims of dead voters casting their ballot have been at the heart of alleged election manipulation in the previous elections.
The government sponsored bill was tabled on the floor of the house yesterday by Majority Leader in the National Assembly Amos Kimunya.
Clause 21 seeks to amend section 44A of the Act to provide for a complementary mechanism for voter identification and transmission of election results,” Read part of the bill.
