Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria on Wednesday October 25 defended Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza after All 59 MCAs in the House voted to remove her from office.
Kuria indicated that Mwangaza’s impeachment was a scheme choreographed by an individual keen to become Mt Kenya kingpin.
The said individual according to Kuria plotted to sabotage and bring down the current crop of leaders before assuming the role of Mt Kenya kingpin.
“I stand with Governor Kawira Mwangaza. This is an evil scheme by someone who thinks that the only way to be a Mt Kenya Kingpin is to bring down other leaders not to solve the problems of our people who are getting desperate by the day. History will vindicate me,” Kuria wrote.
All the 59 MCAs approved Mwangaza’s second impeachment motion while 10 missed the session.
The first-term Governor, who was elected on an independent ticket, was accused of misuse of public funds, gross misconduct, and contempt of the county assembly and court among other charges.
She was first impeached by the Assembly in December 2022 but an 11-member Senate Special Committee appointed to probe the grounds for her impeachment submitted a report stating that none of the charges levelled against her was proven.
Mwangaza’s fate now once again lies with the Senate which is expected to uphold or overturn the impeachment.
The Senate may choose to form a special committee of 11 Senators to probe the matter or consider the impeachment motion as a House.
