Moses Kuria, the Gatundu South MP, has sensationally dragged ODM leader Raila Odinga’s name into the surprise sacking of former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo from a state job.
President Uhuru Kenyatta relieved Gumbo of his duties as the chairperson of Kenyatta National Board with immediate effect in a gazette notice dated April 21.
In his place, Uhuru appointed George Opondo Ooko to take over for the remainder two years. Gumbo had served one year even though his term was to end in May 2022.
According to Kuria, the decision to revoke the ex-MP’s appointment may have been influenced by Raila and informed by Nyanza politics.
“Dear Raila Odinga. Why did you fire Nicholas Gumbo as chair of Kenyatta National Hospital? How many COVID-19 billions are you expecting at KNH that you want a compliant man? Or is it because Gumbo will beat Oburu 10-0 for Siaya governor 2022?” he claimed.
The former legislator and chairperson of Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly, unsuccessfully attempted to unseat Siaya governor Colonel Rasanga in 2017.
He blamed his loss to ODM favoritism perpetuated by the party faceless cartels stationed at the Orange House, which Kuria alluded to in his post.
“When you keep extinguishing hope inspiring candles like Gumbo, how do you expect Luo Nyanza to take off? Or do you even care whether Luo Nyanza takes off or not? You extinguished Oduol and Siaya has lost a decade under Rasanga Amoth. Now another decade you want lost. Yes you are co-president today but use your power realising there is a God in heaven,” the Jubilee politician said.
Considering its only Uhuru who has power to hire and fire corporation heads, Kenyans termed Kuria’s remarks as the usual sentimental blame game and mudslinging.
“Raila was still the co-president as you claim here when Gumbo was appointed. How he is being blamed for his sacking and not credited for his appointment is nauseating and ridiculous witch-hunt . Please Get your brains back,” retorted Phelix, Facebook user.
