Moses Kuria Intervenes After Traffic Police Disrupt Matatu Operations Over Bribe

Date:

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria on Saturday, December 9, wrote to Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome over the alleged harassment of some matatu owners.

In a statement, Kuria noted that some matatu owners had been asked to pay bribes to operate.

This after Explico Insurance firm was placed under receivership which rendered their current policies useless.

Kuria directed Koome to intervene and allow matatu owners to acquire new insurance covers.

“I have received reports about traffic police officers asking for bribes from PSV owners who have cover from Explico Insurance which was only put under receivership yesterday. It is not reasonable to expect innocent policyholders to get new cover over the weekend,” Kuria stated.
“I have raised this issue with IG Japheth Koome. Any police officers especially around Eldoret Town who are doing this, do it at your own risk. I urge all PSV owners not to pay any bribes,” he added.
