Modern Coast still operating despite government ban after a series of accidents

Date:

Modern Coast Express Limited has declared that business will carry on as usual.

A day after the government suspended its operating license, the business will continue operating the Nairobi-Kampala, Nairobi-Kigali, and Nairobi-Bujumbura routes.

The troubled bus business, however, insisted that it would follow the Transport Ministry’s order and stop operating the services between Nairobi and Malindi and Nairobi upcountry.

Kipchumba Murkomen, Cabinet Secretary for Transport and Infrastructure, issued the order on Friday.

Following the suspension of its operating license, the company announced in a statement on its Facebook page, the aforementioned routes will stay suspended until further notice.

But the business gave its clients the reassurance that it would keep providing courier services.

“Customers who had booked advance tickets on the affected routes shall be booked to travel with another bus company to their respective destinations, same date and at the same time.

All our offices countrywide shall remain open for parcel services and cross-border bookings. We greatly regret the impact of this unexpected action on your day’s plans as we urge you to kindly stay close to our communication channels for subsequent updates,” says Modern Coast Express Limited.

Six people were killed in an accident involving the bus operator on Friday in Uganda, which led to the suspension.

Authorities blamed adverse weather for the head-on collision between the Modern Coast Bus-Annex bus Oxygen and a Rwandan bus along the Ntungamo-Kabale Highway in western Uganda, which resulted in six fatalities and numerous injuries.
