Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga on Sunday had a rough time in Kitale town after youths demanded money from him.
It seems the visibly angry youths had been told that some money had been given out by Raila, hence requesting the same from the ODM leader as he addressed them.
As a result, Raila had to make it clear to the Kitale youths that he had already given out half a million Kenya shillings to the unidentified group.
“Tayari nimesatoa pesa huku chini. Mimi nimetoa nusu millioni kwa iyo vijana. Nimesatoa pesa nimesatoa pesa. Nimesatoa pesa vijana.” Said Raila to cool down the money hungry Kitale locals.
This comes a day after the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader claimed that DP William Ruto spends about Ksh 100 million monthly on campaigns.
The former prime minister questioned DP Ruto’s source of wealth since his salary can not meet his campaign budget.
Speaking during the Azimio la umoja campaign in Trans Nzoia, he said that Ruto’s monthly salary does not exceed Ksh2 million yet he is always on a spending spree.
“He buys vehicles for bishops and pastors. In a month, he uses Ksh 100 million yet his salary is only Ksh2 million. Where does he get that money? That is unlawfully obtained money,” Raila said.
He promised to end unlawful ways of acquiring money when he ascends to power, adding that he would recover all lost public funds and invest them in government projects
Raila further said that he would support maize farmers and rescue them from greedy middlemen that have been duping them over the years.
“Farming is always a subsidized business across the world. The government subsidies prices so that its citizens can have enough food and the farmers can get enough money,” the former prime minister stated.
The opposition chief also said that he will announce his presidential bid on December 9, 2021. He is expected to face DP Ruto in the presidential race in the general elections slated for August 9, 2022.
