Meru Senator Mithika Linturi has had several brushes with the law, attention is now focused on the numerous scandals including rape that he has been embroiled in.
Linturi made headlines for all the wrong reasons after he stirred up ethnic animosity in his speech during a rally held by DP William Ruto in Eldoret on Saturday January 8th.
The Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji ordered investigations into Linturi’s remarks leading to his arrest.
Hate speech aside, Linturi has been caught up in numerous scandals that made headlines across the country earning him negative media coverage.
Meru senator is accused of attempted rape 36-year old woman at Mayani Villas in Nanyuki after he sneaked into her hotel room.
It was reported that on January 30th 2021, at 3 am, Linturi entered the room that the woman had booked with her husband when the husband was not around and started touching her inappropriately.
The woman thought it was her husband who had returned, however after some time the husband returned and it was when she discovered that there was a stranger in their room.
An alarm was raised and with the help of friends who had accompanied them to the Villas, the couple identified the stranger as Linturi who opted to settle the matter with them amicably.
Linturi agreed to pay the couple Ksh1 million – Ksh200,000 in cash and 800,000 in cheque but later sued them for extortion.
The couple then filed a report at against the senator accusing him of attempted rape and committing an indecent act with an adult.
How Linturi managed to have the energy to try rape the woman is puzzling given that his ex wife Marianne Kitany claimed that he always failed to rise to the occasion.
Linturi has had a dramatic and acrimonious divorce from his estranged wife Kitany for more than three years now.
At one point, Kitany sensationally claimed the legislator could not “rise to the occasion” in the bedroom in her affidavit.
“Linturi was unable to rise to the occasion in the bedroom on several occasions, claiming exhaustion, sickness, but for the most part he simply could not,” Kitany claimed.
Linturi’s estranged wife described to the court how their relationship started as a fling before it blossomed into an intense love affair.
Kitany claimed their love was short-lived. Linturi started coming home late and she became suspicious. She said that she snooped in his phone and found photos of women and also pornographic videos sent to him by several women.
The Meru senator however insists that Kitany and him were never married, that they were just dating.
Kitany aside, Linturi was also sued in 2012 by another woman for abandoning her and their son. The woman claimed in her suit that they were married in May 2008 under Meru customary law and that she gave birth to their son in 2010.
The woman claimed that Linturi was good to her until sometime in 2011 when he turned cruel, abusive, irresponsible and negligent.
Linturi has also been sued for other reasons including forgery.
