Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko might have landed himself in a proverbial rabbit hole after opting out of an agreement he had with President Uhuru Kenyatta to hand over key functions to the National Government under the newly built government body, NMS.
Mike Sonko wrote to the Attorney General, Paul Kihara informing him of his decision to cancel the deed of transfer he signed with President Kenyatta.
As it stands currently, the deed of transfer clause 9 will tie down Mike SOnko for two years.
Mike Sonko is the only one who wants out in the signed, sealed, and delivered agreement he had with the President which even makes the reneging of the agreement even harder because it has to be a mutual agreement from both parties.
Clause 9 that the Nairobi Governor signed states; The deal is in effect for two years (24 months) before the two parties consider renewing.
This means that discussions on renewing the deed will be held in February 2022, a few months before Kenyatta retires.
The deed may only be terminated by mutual written consent from both Parties if push comes to shove.
Clause 11 states that; in the event of a dispute between the Parties, the two sides shall at the first instance endeavor to resolve the dispute amicably through negotiations.

This one clause will be a headache to the Governor since Mike Sonko will need President Uhuru Kenyatta’s final say to end the deal between the government and Nairobi County.
This process is poised to fail after Sonko launched attacks at Kenyatta’s team accusing them of offering him alcohol which affected his reasoning before signing the deal.
It adds that; if the dispute is not resolved amicably within 30 days from the date, one party notifies the other of the dispute in writing, the parties shall refer the dispute to the National and County Governments Coordinating Summit.
