Controversial lawyer and activist Miguna Miguna was expected in the country on Tuesday, November 16, 2021.
Miguna embarked on his journey home on Sunday through Berlin, Germany, however his journey was cut short after Air France barred him from boarding a flight to Kenya on Monday.
“This is to inform Kenyans and the world that Air France officials at the check-in counter at the Berlin Brandenburg Airport have just informed me that the Government of Kenya sent them a “Red Alert” this morning that they cannot fly me to Nairobi, ” Miguna said in a statement.
Following the move to block Miguna from returning to the country, Kenyans who had waited anxiously for him to arrive took to social media to advice him on a number of ways he can use to enter the country.
“General What if you hire a private Jet?” Kimani Football asked.
“Can you hire one for me? More seriously, even private jets need clearance to fly over a country’s airspace. At the moment, Despot Uhuru Kenyatta has abducted the Kenyan airspace and will either shoot your jet down, or deny it landing. Let us reflect carefully before Tweeting,” Miguna responded.
Nicholas Opiyo said, “Certainly not, Dr. Perhaps if you were traveling to a different country as a final destination, the red alert would not be triggered. But I may be wrong. If I am, pardon my ignorance.”
The lawyer answered him by saying, “You are wrong. Both @lufthansa and @airfrance have told me that the Red Alerts prevent them from flying me to any destination in Africa. Focus on the illegalities of the Red Alerts, their use to facilitate disobedience of court orders and human rights violations.”
He went on to say that the red alerts bar him from travelling to any African country and he would be branded a terrorist if he tries to enter the country illegally.
“Those asking me to fly to Uganda then cross the border “illegally” into Kenya must understand that the Red Alerts stop airlines from flying me to any African country. Also, acting illegally would give the despot an excuse to justify his criminality and to brand me a terrorist,” Miguna wrote on twitter.
Earlier on told President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga that he will never surrender to them no matter what and that he will continue fighting for justice.
“To Despot Uhuru Kenyatta and Conman @RailaOdinga: I will never surrender no matter how fearful, desperate, brutal and childish you become. I will keep speaking the truth forever. Just checked into a hotel in Berlin. The struggle for social justice will continue. Viva!” he said.
Miguna’s troubles started after he swore in ODM leader Raila Odinga as the People’s president in January 2018.
He was accused of treason and the government said that he had denounced his Kenyan citizenship hence the decision to deport him to Canada.
Since then, his efforts to return to Kenya have proved futile.
