A man in Githongo market in Meru county caught the attention of the nation after he refused to take Ksh1 million in cash that DP William Ruto gave him.
Ruto and his Tangatanga brigade traversed Meru county on Monday November 15th and as usual the DP gave out handouts to residents.
At Githongo market in Central Imenti constituency, Ruto gave residents Ksh1 million to share among themselves.
The DP announced before leaving for the next rally that he had Ksh1 million in cash with him which he was giving to residents to boost their businesses.
“I was told by your leader that there are hustlers at this market. That there are mama mbogas, small scale traders, bodaboda riders, watu wa kupasua kuni and others who need a boost of their hustles. I was also told that you have a chairman who has put everything in order,” Ruto said.
He then asked that “what’s the chairman’s name?” Then from around his ride he was informed that the chairman is called Peter Koome.
Ruto then said; “I’m giving Peter Koome 1 million shillings for him to distribute among those hustlers in this area.”
The announcement elicited excitement from residents at Githongo market.
“Nikikupatia hapa ni sawa?” Ruto asked Peter Koome.
Peter refused probably fearing that the money will trigger chaos in public like what has been witnessed in other parts of the country.
“Peter amesema nisimpee hapa, ananifuata atawaletea,” Ruto informed the crowd before he concluded his rally.
Ruto’s handouts have been causing chaos throughout the country as people fight to get money he dishes out at his rallies whenever he goes.
