Menstrual Disorders Education To Be Included In The CBC

Date:

Through the Great Places to School Initiative in partnership with the Standard Group PLC and Endo Sisters EA Foundation, the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) will incorporate Menstrual Disorders (MD) Education under its program.

Speaking during the worship to reduce the gaps in the curriculum on menstrual matters, Endo Sisters Director Doris Murimi said the curriculum is a step that will go together in ensuring that adolescent girls are taught menstrual health disorders.

“I am genuinely delighted about the progress of fundamental changes in the way menstrual issues will be dealt with from an educational point of view,” Murimi said as reported by Education News.

” It is a celebration for all of us and especially our daughters, nieces, and younger sisters in school,” she added.

Speaking at the workshop, KICD CEO Prof. Charles Ongodo said menstrual education disorders fit the CBC and noted the importance of its increased awareness.

KICD Deputy Director Special Programs Grace Ngugi who is championing for mainstreaming of Menstrual Disorders Education (MDE) into the curriculum confirmed that it will be included in each of the six broad areas of pertinent and contemporary issues.

The inclusion comes a year after a 14-year-old female student in Bomet County committed suicide after a teacher humiliated her for soiling her school uniform.

It is also important to know that a lot of girls have dropped out of school after being humiliated by other students.
