Kampire ‘Jose’ Josefa, a 28-year-old woman from Rwanda has never grown a single hair on her body since the age of five.
Kampire lost all of her hair including her eyebrows after the death of her father which occurred immediately after he was done shaving her when she was five years old.
Her hair had not been removed completely but after they were done mourning it started falling off slowly. Her family thought that she had been bewitched but now they no longer know what to think about the matter.
“This girl is my granddaughter. She was normal at birth and she had hair and her legs were okay,” Patricia, Kampire’s grandmother said.
Her head turned smooth as if it had never grown any hair. Patricia and Kampire’s mother took her to a traditional doctor in a bid to establish what was happening to their daughter. She was given herbs of different kinds that she applied on her head but none of them worked.
When the first attempt failed, they looked for a different traditional doctor however there were no changes.
“We got tired and stopped trying. It was costing all the little money we had,” Patricia said.
Kampire lost her mother too but they could however not tell what she had succumbed thus throwing the family into more confusion.
After her mother passed away, Kampire’s legs started developing problems and she ended up being disabled.
“One leg started bending on its own. She was still a child and we were wondering what it was,” Patricia narrated.
At that point, they resolved to take her to a hospital and this round the treatment worked.
“She started crawling down on the ground like a frog and that is when we took her to a hospital. We spent four months there and they treated her,” Patricia said.
After that, they waited to see if her hair would grow, but nothing happened until she was all grown. Kampire got married but her marriage did not last long since her husband’s friends would mock him and make fun of him because of the kind of wife he had.
“I spent 6 months with my husband but his friends kept laughing at him because of me then we divorced,” Kampire said.
Those friends advised him to leave her because it was likely that their children would inherit her condition.
After her failed marriage, Kampire returned to her grandmother’s home. She has vowed to never get married again.
“No way, I will never get married again, it is wasting time, every man will always be is rude, abuse me and never be proud of me as a wife,” she said.
