The shortest time ever for a president to serve a country was 45 minutes and that was Pedro Lascurain of Mexico.
Normally, a sitting president would serve for at least four years so that the impact of his reign can be felt by the people of the country he is serving.
This is a history that was also recorded in the Guinness book of records.
According to History of Yesterday, Lascurain entered office on February 19, 1913 as the 38th president of Mexico and before an hour could elapse, he had already tendered his resignation to the congress.
Lascurain, took over from the 37th president Francis Madero. Madero assumed office after a revolution that began in 1910 hoping to bring democracy in the country.
At the time however, Mexico was thrown into a civil war that lasted until 1920. Lascurain was serving as the minister of Foreign Affairs for the second term.
On February 19, the biggest military coup in the history of the Mexican revolution took place under the leadership of General Victoriano Huerta alongside the US ambassador to Mexico.
Madero was captured and placed in custody by the military forces who demanded him to resign as president or else they would kill him.
Lascurain, who was close to Madero, easily convinced him to resign as the head of state in order to save his life.
According to the law then, the next person to become president if anything happened to a sitting president was the minister of Foreign affairs and that is how Lascurain ascended to power little did he know that he would suffer the same fate as Madero.
The first thing that he did as president was to take a command from Huerta who demanded that he make him the minister of Foreign Affairs.
Huerta then ordered him to resign, which he did because or he would have been killed.
Huerta then became the 39th president and offered Lascruain the Political Administration position, which he rejected and went back to being a lawyer.
Lascurain died in 1952 at the age of 96 years.
