Michael Lulu Mudavadi, the son to the Amani national Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi is always playing video games like a small child whenever he is free.
While speaking to a local media station, Michael Lulu Mudavadi recalled how he applied video gaming skills during their January 15th 2019 Dusit2 terror attack.
On the fateful Thursday afternoon, Musalia Mudavadi’s son was caught up in a difficult situation which forced him to implement most of the skills he watches in the video games.
Lulu Mudavadi heard an explosion when he was at his office based at the Dusit2 complex and for more than one hour, the whole situation seemed like it was a time to respond to the “Call of Duty ” just like he had been playing in the video games.
“We heard a huge loud bang and the windows were shattered, glasses flying, and everyone was in panic and screaming. Guys started shouting that’s a bomb,” Lulu said during an interview with the Star as he assumed it was a small incident that would be handled and they go ahead with work.
“I used to work there at a marketing agency. Our company was on the first floor,” he said.
Feeling shocked, Lulu Mudavadi kept asking in his mind how Dusi2 which was heavily guarded could be attacked by terrorists. He could not simply believe it.
On looking outside, they saw five seriously armed men shooting towards the Dusit entrance and it is at that point when he started imagining what he would do in a video game.
“I walked towards the entrance and I started hearing the rapid fire. I stopped and I was like ‘that sounds like gun shots’,” he said.
“We were very strategic. We hid just around the entrance where we would be seen first during the rescue. We barricaded the door with a few chairs, ran down to the bottom floor. Even if they broke in there, they would just think its construction material.” Said Micahel Lulu Mudavadi.
Like any other normal person, he called his father Musalia Mudavadi as his thoughts quickly shifted to the value of life due to the situation. His mind had these questions: What if I don’t make it? have I lived my full life? What about my friends and families back at home?
Lulu Mudavadi was by then receiving endless calls and messages but he could not attend to all of them except for his elder brother Moses whom he was to coordinate with and inform him where he was.
To further enhance his chances of being rescued, Lulu Mudavadi took cover at a strategic place within the building. This made his brother and two bodyguards to easily come for his rescue.
“My brother came to Dusit with two of my dad’s bodyguards. We managed to coordinate on the phone,’’ continued Michael Lulu Mudavadi.
With regards to the nature of his parents, the vibrant youth described them as disciplinarians since he was naturally a naughty child.
“I was a naughty kid. I remember I once sneaked out and came back to meet the wrath of both of them. It was a hot grilling,” Our parents have always told us to pursue our own dreams and do what makes us happy,” he said.
