Mbadi Comes Clean On Plans To Revive Some Of Finance Bill 2024 Clauses

Date:

About a week ago, Treasury CS John Mbadi hinted that he was planning to revive some clauses of the now defunct Finance Bill 2024.

Among the clauses is the Eco Levy as well as 48 other clauses. Mbadi was speaking when he was receiving the Treasury ministry from former CS Njuguna Ndung’u.

In his speech, the former ODM chair noted that there were provisions in the Finance Bill 2024 that would help the country grow.

“Our team is already working on some of the proposals that were in the Finance Bill 2024 which we can now put together and see how to take them back to Parliament not as Finance Bill but as other proposals,” Mbadi said, adding that once the clauses are ready, they would be taken through an extensive public participation.

However, while appearing on Citizen TV on Thursday night August 22, Mbadi denied plans to have some of the Finance Bill 2024 clauses revived.

Mbadi said that his statement was taken out of context. According to him, he only sought clarification over the rejection of eco levy.

“Eco levy is not one of the things that we are considering bringing back,” the CS said. “We are not bringing back Finance Bill 2024 that should go out clearly. It is gone, buried and withdrawn.”

He added that many of the clauses in the bill did not sit well with Kenyans.

“Many clauses in that Bill were rejected by Kenyans and hence have no space under my regime. I have made it very clear to the President,” Mbadi said.
