The father of self confessed child serial killer Masten Milimu Wanjala expressed his shock on learning that his son escaped from prison.
Masten was confirmed missing from the Jogoo Road Police station on Wednesday morning at 7 am when officers on duty were conducting a roll call.
His father, Robert Wanjala Watira, has demanded an explanation from the National Police Service on how Masten escaped from the heavily guarded station.
Watira said that he learnt of his son’s prison escape through media reports.
“I’m surprised to learn of my son’s escape from jail. How did he escape? The police need to explain how he managed to do so. I have not seen him and I am not interested in seeing him,” Watira told journalists.
He further distanced himself from the suspect while saying that he was in shock when he learned that his son had vampire like traits back in July.
In a previous interview, Watira said that he did not raise his son and that he was brought to him by his mother when he was all grown.
“As his father, I am not part of his wrongdoings. I tried to give him a better life but he disappeared. He should carry his own cross,” Watira told the Nation at his home Namakhele.
Masten is believed to have escaped from prison between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
Reports indicate that he was last seen sharing an evening meal with 7 other inmates when there was a blackout at the station.
The police arrested 20 inmates who shared a cell with Masten on the same night. When a roll call was conducted in the morning, it was discovered that Milimu was missing before an alarm was raised.
Three police officers were who were on duty when the suspect escaped were arrested and charged with aiding a suspect to escape from lawful custody and negligence of duties.
