Kenya is celebrating its 60th Mashujaa Day. The national celebration of the important day went down at the Kericho Green Stadium.
The event was graced by the head of state William Ruto, his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, dignitaries and other VIPs from African countries.
Other leaders who did not attend the event took to their socials to share their Mashujaa Day message with Kenyans, one of them being former Vice president and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
In his Message on X, Kalonzo recounted how it took 11 years for Kenya to gain independence.
“Long before the State of Emergency was declared on October 20,1952, Kenyans from across the east and west, north and south were in unison: End the tyranny of colonialism, regain our heritage and occupied lands, and equally important, our humanity as a free and equally recognised people. This was our formal Declaration towards Independence achieved 11 hard fought years later,” Kalonzo said.
He also shared what he desires the country to attain in the coming 10 years.
“I look forward to our next decade that should through the lens of necessity, bring about the quality of opportunity where every Kenyan matters; where every Kenyans vote is of a consequence,” he wrote.
The wiper party leader also acknowledged the heroes who fought hard to set the country free from the colonial powers
“To the brave men and women who changed world history forever under such harrowing circumstance and ensuring our hard fought Independence against the greatest of odds; we continue to express our thanks and gratitude. As we celebrate and acknowledge this 60th Mashujaa Day, may we also pause to reflect on our past and envision the future our forefathers wanted for our great Republic of Kenya,” Kalonzo said.
