Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has weighed in on the recent attempt to impeach Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
Taking to her official X account, the former presidential aspirant condemned the disgraceful remarks that were made by male politicians from Meru in an attempt to bully Mwangaza.
Karua urged the national assembly, the Meru county, the senate as well as other human rights organisations to take action upon those responsible for the utterances.
“@KENYAPARLIAMENT @Senate_KE @NAssemblyKE @MeruCounty012 should act on the sexist, disgraceful and demeaning utterances of their members that surfaced in the just concluded failed second attempt to impeach @Kawiramwangaza. @NGECKenya @HakiKNCHR @KEWOPA too ought to take steps to redress this shameful display of misogyny,” Karua tweeted.
“Chapter six of our constitution on leadership and integrity should be enforced as well as the parliamentary code of conduct,” she added.
Mpuru Aburu, MP for Tigania East, is one of the Meru leaders who stood out for making demeaning utterances against Mwangaza.
On Friday, he demanded an apology from the governor saying that the video that was played during the hearing of her impeachment had been manipulated to taint him negatively.
“Nataka apology kutoka kwa Governor wetu wa Meru County kwamba aliambia Wakenya uwongo. Niko tayari kuenda kuandika statement, alete video, mimi niko na video yangu ya maneno niliongea…ile yao ilikuwa imekatwakatwa kuonyesha ya kwamba Mpuru amekuwa akivuruga kina Mama,” Mpuru said.
“I have faith in women and I will file a statement at the DCI for defamation over what happened at the Senate. The video played at the Senate was edited. I have the full account of the real remarks I made in my phone,” he further said.
