Martha Koome Tells Off Ruto On Claims Of Corruption In Courts

Date:

Chief Justice Martha Koome has challenged president William Ruto over his remarks that judicial officers are corrupt.

Koome said that the Judiciary does not condone any forms of corruption as well as other misconducts.

“We are ready to process any complaints against any judge or judicial officer who is implicated in corruption or in any acts of misconduct and state we abhor corruption in all its formats be it bribery which indeed is a crime,” the chief justice said.

He told those with complains against any judicial officer to provide evidence for Judicial Service Commission to take action, instead of issuing blank statements

“However such complains must be launched and processed in the manner prescribed by the constitution. Days are gone when judicial officers were hounded out of office through name calling and shaming.

“JSC, the body mandated by the constitution to deal with matters of complaints will only act on the basis of evidence and  not on blanket statements or allegations that have not be substantiated. Doing otherwise will be  overthrowing the constitution,” Koome said.

Ruto, earlier this week, maintained that Judiciary is corrupt and vowed to bring that to an end.

The president, also alleged that, his successors had a budger for bribing the Judiciary, something, he claimed, does not align with his principles.

“The biggest problem in Kenya is unemployment. Please, I want to tell you kuweni na utu. You have jobs, and your children have jobs. The children of the hustler and mama mbogas have no jobs. I am their lawyer and I cannot bribe the courts; instead of giving bribes to courts, I will end corruption in courts,” he said.
