Manchester United could end up shooting themselves in the foot with their negotiating tactic for Jadon Sancho, because Borussia Dortmund will want to sign a replacement if they sell.
Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth has warned that Dortmund are unlikely to let the winger leave in the final days of the window.
United are leaving it late before making their final move for Sancho this summer.
The Red Devils are desperate to sign the 20-year-old winger, and have already had numerous bids turned down this summer.
They’ve agreed personal terms with the winger worth a reported £340,000-per-week over five years.
But the transfer fee is still yet to be decided, with Dortmund standing firm on £108million.
United are reportedly waiting until the final day of the transfer window – which closes on October 5th – before testing Dortmund’s resolve.
They will apparently try to get a discount on the £108m price tag, as they are unable to fork out the full amount in one go.
Instead, they have offered to pay in installments, and are reportedly only ready to pay £80m this summer.
Dortmund want to sign a replacement for the English wonderkid if he leaves, and speaking to Sky Sports News, Sheth warned this could be a problem for United.

“Leaving it late, is that going to fall on deaf ears at Borussia Dortmund?” he asked.
“If they leave it until October 3rd, 4th or even deadline day on October 5th, Borussia Dortmund have always said he’s staying.
“The alternative is they wait until next summer and bring in an experienced player until next summer, perhaps on loan, and then go back in for Jadon Sancho next summer.
“This is a crucial final period of the window for Manchester United, make no mistake about it.
“And it’s a crucial period for the club, and also the fans making all this noise on social media about how they perceive Manchester United.”
