A Nigerian university student escaped death by a whisker after being saved from her boyfriend who was about to brutally murder her.
According to Nigerian media outlets, the suspect attempted to behead his girlfriend for money rituals on Setraco Road, along Ogobiri-Torouebeni drive.
The victim, who is a student of the Niger Delta University Wilberforce Island was saved by some youths and police officers.
It is alleged that the suspect who is believed to be an internet fraudster from a group known as Yahoo Boy lured the victim with money and dated her with the intention of sacrificing her.
“After he succeeded in roping her hands and legs, he was on the verge of cutting her neck when the savior of the nightmare (Ogobiri youths) who traced his earlier movement through a revelation by a nearby person caught him together with the efforts of the men of operation,” reads a report by a Nigerian media outlet.
The suspect is currently being held at Balyesa police station as investigations in the matter continue.
A similar incident was witnessed in 2018 whereby three Yahoo Boys were arrested at Ifant Jesus area in Asaba for attempting to use their girlfriends for money rituals.
“They lavished money on them until the fateful Monday when they gave them water in pots to drink, one of them refused and immediately called her brother at the State CID and described the house to them, and the police mobilized to the house and arrested them in an apartment around Ifant Jesus area of Asaba,” the Commissioner of police in the state, Mustafa Muhammad said.
Muhammad added that they were going to ensure that other Yahoo Boys would be brought to book.
“The police will leave no stone unturned to ensure that all the Yahoo boys are brought to book, the police have enough reports on the Yahoo boys and we are closing in on them, very soon it will be history in the state,” he added.
