Mama Ngina Kenyatta, has retaliated against President William Ruto and his allies in response to claims that her family committed tax evasion while his son Uhuru Kenyatta was in office.
Speaking at a religious event in Lamu, Mama Ngina lamented the way the tax controversy had tarnished the reputation of her family.
“Hakuna haja ya kuaribia wengine Majina na mimi ndio watu wasikike wanafanya kazi. Hapana, Mtu ashtakiwe, alipe kile anatakiwa kulipa,” Mama Ngina open up about the allegations.
“There is no need to tarnish my reputation or the reputations of others so that you can appear to be productive. Let the accused appear in court or pay the fine if it is due.”
She continued by daring the state to put her properties up for auction if it turned out that she had neglected to pay her tax debt.
Mama Ngina called the attacks made against her family unfair and untrue, and she urged the government to address the matter honestly rather than using it for political gain.
“Na Kama ni mimi, ata kama sijalipa kwa mwaka moja, mali ichukuliwe ilipe tax kwa sababu ni lazima. Hakuna haja ya kufanya kazi ya kisiasa ya hivi na kule. Na Si kweli kwamba sijalipa tax. Na watu wanajua hawasemi ukweli ,” she said further.
The former first lady argued that handling the situation according to the law’s due process is preferable than tarnishing people’s reputations.
