United States (US) based law professor Makau Mutua has said Deputy President William Ruto who has gone silent despite being under siege will re-emerge stronger as he could be strategising on how to make a comeback.
In a tweet, Mutua said the DP would “shake” Kenya’s political landscape like never before. “When he re-emerges, expect William Ruto to do so with a bang. Expect an earthquake. Timing is everything — Law 35 [The 48 Laws of Power],” he tweeted.
Since the first case of coronavirus was confirmed in Kenya on Friday, March 13, Ruto has not appeared in state events alongside government officials only cutting a lone figure when he gave a speech on COVID-19 safety measures on Thursday, April 9.
Many analysts opined Ruto was unwanted in government and should resign before he was forced out. Political commentator Herman Manyora for instance, said President Uhuru Kenyatta would continue hitting allies of the DP and stripping them off powers as long as he remained in government.
He advised Ruto to lay low, focus on the few duties he still has as the deputy president and declare that he would not vie in 2022.
“If he does not resign, then Uhuru will continue hitting his men. He will risk losing his men as they will start to believe the DP is of no help since all he can do is watch them being struck.”
“What happened to Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and his Nakuru counterpart Susan Kihika was just the beginning. Much more still awaits his troops,” said Manyara adding that Uhuru was set to become more ruthless before end of his tenure.
